The earliest written record of this expression dates back to 1966. According to Richard D. Lewis, author of When Cultures Collide: Leading Across Cultures, the expression is characteristic of the culture, relaxation, and friendliness typical of Australia.

A bit of history
The success story began in 1992, when a trio of Australians living in Paris, with the support of the famous Foster’s beer brand, teamed up to create a place that reflected the atmosphere of Australian bars and the festive culture they nostalgically missed.
Two years later, the concept was adopted by two friends, Patrick Robert and Bernard Weber, who took the risk of expanding the brand by opening new bars with an Australian spirit. The attempt was a success, and today, the Café Oz Group has 9 venues located in Paris, Lille, Bordeaux, Toulouse, and Lyon.
